The North Stainley Sports and Recreation Trust is a registered charity whose purpose is to own and manage the recreation field and it's accompanying facilities which is situated in the centre of the village for the benefit of the village as a whole.

The trustees are nominated members of the village organisations which have an interest in the recreation field together with elected members. Such organisations include the Parochial Church Council, the Parish Council, the School, the Cricket Club, etc. Additional trustees may be co-opted onto the Trust as required in accordance with it's constitution.

The Trust is currently looking to build a new village hall on land adjacent to the recreation field to replace the existing cricket pavilion. To contribute towards the cost of this, it is proposed to sell off an unused part of the recreation field for additional housing development. The sale of this land is ultimately dependent upon the wishes of the villagers. Should the villagers decide to sell, the proceeds of the sale, together with an application for lottery funding, will go directly to fund the building of the new multi-function village hall on land donated by the current landowner, Mr Robert Staveley.

Following the decision by Hansons to withdraw from the project due to lack of unanimous support from the village forr gravel extraction on land to the rear of the Watermill Lane estate, a newly constituted project team of volunteers has been set up by the Trust with effect from January 2005. The role of this group is to manage the design and costings of a revised facility, the lottery funding application, the official planning approval process and the approval by the village of the sale of the land.
